Laptop Recordings [Peter Doherty]

In 17th April 2006, Andrew Kendall posted on the official Libertines forum with a link to two torrents. The first was 1.54 GB and was called Laptop Recordings. Inside this first torrent file were 123 MP3's that Peter Doherty had recorded on his laptop. Although the majority of it was talking and background noise, there were also plenty of songs in The Laptop Recordings; such as a version of Loyalty Song with Wolfman taking vocal duties and the very first recording of A Fool There Was.

By 23rd April 2006, all 123 were uploaded to Libertines media archive website, Albion Arks. The songs were sorted out by a fan on Albion Arks called "Raphael", and thirteen songs that had never been heard before were cut down, their sound quality improved, and eventually became known as The Laptop Laughs. The run time of these thirteen new tracks was around 1 hour, compared to the whole Laptop Recordings that were over ten hours long.

The recordings in the folder were given to Andrew Kendall some time between the release of The Libertines and the release of Babyshambles' debut album, Down in Albion (thus between September 2004 and November 2005). Kendall commented on the official Libertines forum that it did not feel right releasing them when so much was going on with the bands and decided to hold them back. He also said that he wasn't comfortable with uploading everything from the Laptop recordings, due to the amount of private conversations and unreleased tracks they contained, however Peter Doherty had insisted, as he didn't want the recordings from his laptops to end up getting lost.
