Band songlist

Info

Piracy (also known as Why Did You Break My Heart or Hearts, Minds & Melodies) is a B Side track to Babyshambles' fourth single, Albion. The lyrics borrow from The Libertines' song, What Katie Did, as the backing vocals sing "Shoop de-lang de-lang", while Doherty sings, "Why can't you look me in the eye?".

As well as being released on Albion, Piracy was also released on Babyshambles' B Sides album, exclusive to America and the Shaken and Withdrawn Megamix (Track #7) titled "There is a light/32nd of December".

Lyrics

They hold you down
Spin you round
Fuck you up
And they hold you down
Waiting for
The jingle jangle of the jailers bangle
To set you free (oh set me free)
Only true hearts and minds and melodies
Are said to cure all known maladies
So sing along
It won't be long
Until the whole city belongs
To true hearts and minds
Maladies will be gone
Oh and the piracy (piracy)

And they'll keep on busking through your dreams that your living
Taking all along the seams which are splitting
Way beneath the sea in which your living in, oh
Oh the piracy, do you believe honour amongst honest men
That's not a lollipop, it's a machete!

When they keep on busking through my dreams that your living
Way beneth the seams that are splitting
Way beneth the sea in which I'm living in

Tell me why-y-y, can't you look me in the eye-y? li-di di
Just tell me why, why did you break my heart?
Shoop de-lang de-lang, de-lang de-lang
Why would it matter to you anymore than me wail...
Tell me why-y-y, can't you look me in the eye-y?
Just tell me why, why did you break my heart?
Shoop de-lang de-lang, de-lang de-lang
Why would it matter to you so late in the day..
Shoop de-lang de-lang, de-lang de-lang
This town may hold no hope for me Well I think I'd run away to see..

Oh the piracy, do you believe honour amongst honest men
They will keep on busking through your dreams that you're living
Way beneath the seams in which you're living
Way beneath the sea in which I'm living

Busking through my dreams that
I'm living
Way beneath the seams in which I'm living
...
Oh piracy
