Baddie's Boogie

Band songlist

Info

Baddie's Boogie is the title of a Babyshambles song that features as track #10 on their second album, Shotter's Nation and is credited to Peter Doherty, Mik Whitnall and Kate Moss.

In late 2007, news websites reported claims that this track was far from original. Wayne Kenyon (who used to be in The Ferrymen and Skin Deep with Whitnall) said that Baddie's Boogie was a rip-off of a song that The Ferrymen had written in 1997 called "Undercover Elephant", and that Whitnall had promised him a credit on the Babyshambles track. The song also directly lifts the chorus line ("It's a lousy life for the washed up wife of a permanently plastered pissed up bastard") from Bradford poet Nick Toczek's track, "Stiff With A Quiff" (a song which originally appeared under the band name Nick Toczek's Britanarchists, on an Oi! compilation album that Skin Deep also featured on). Despite these claims, nothing more was said in the media after the initial story. An early instrumental (and radically differently arranged) version of this track was first released on Skin Deep's 1989 album "Much More Than Skin-Deep". It's title came from a banner Wayne saw at a football match which read 'Huyton Baddies'.

Baddie's Boogie was one of the only tracks from Shotter's Nation that had not been previously demo'd, and released onto the internet. This meant that Baddie's Boogie was one of the only new tracks for fans on Shotter's Nation, apart from a few bootleg versions that were circling the internet.

Lyrics

Baddie’s bound by ancient codes of decency and secrecy
He understands about stabbing backs and shaking hands
So if or when you’re behind bars or in front of them as you are
Look out for the man who’ll bum your wife and then shake your hand

Oh you’ve been here before, you fell in love and carried her over the threshold
Thinking, she’s far too good looking to do the cooking
Now, but that’s twenty years ago...twenty years ago

Thats a lousy life for the washed up wife of a permanently plastered, pissed up bastard
a lousy life for the washed up wife of a permanently plastered, pissed up bastard
a lousy life for the washed up wife of a permanently plastered, pissed up bastard
Lousy life, lousy life

Kid was singing will I ever be free, does this town hold no more for me
Club Tropicana the drinks are free, stick one in his face for me

Baddies bound to decency and secrecy
Baddies bound…

Oh well you’ve been here before, fell in love and carried her over the threshold
Thinking, she’s far too good looking to do the cooking
Oh but that was twenty years ago...twenty years ago

It’s a lousy life for the washed up wife of a permanently plastered, pissed up bastard
a lousy life for the washed up wife of a permanently plastered, pissed up bastard
a lousy life for the washed up wife of a permanently plastered, pissed up bastard
Lousy life, a lousy life

Kid was singing will I ever be free, does this town hold no more for me
Club Tropicana the drinks are free, stick one in his face for me

Baddies bound...decency and secrecy
