Lost Art of Murder

Band songlist

Info

Lost Art of Murder (previously Lost My Phone in Paradise or Nice Day For A Murder) is a Babyshambles track, that features as track #12 on their 2nd album, Shotter's Nation, with writing credit going to Doherty. The song was first heard in January 2007, when Paul Roundhill uploaded a version (which stated that it was recorded in 2006) to his YouTube profile called "lost my phone in paradise".

In April 2007, Peter Doherty played a live set with Bert Jansch at The Hackney Empire, London, and Lost Art of Murder was the first song they played together. In June 2007, Peter played the song acoustically on Friday Night With Jonathan Ross. He announced that it would be the closer on the new Babyshambles album and feature Bert Jansch on guitar.

The song was sometimes mistakenly called "Nice Day For A Murder" by fans creating bootlegs, due to the lyrics "What a nice day for a murder / Well, they say you're a killer, boy / But the only thing you're killing is time."
The song title is a paraphrase of George Orwell's essay, "Decline of the English Murder."

Lyrics

Roll a four, roll a nine
Find yourself washed up in paradise
Just like before you didn't mind someone else washed up in paradise
Every day

What a nice day for a murder
You call yourself a killer but the only thing you're killing is your time
There's nothing absurder
than a bird that´s a burden to your heart, soul, body, spirit and mind.

Don't look at me like that she won't take you back
Said too much been too unkind
Get up off your back, stop smoking that
Change your life, just might change her mind, her mind.

Roll a four, roll a nine
Find yourself washed up in paradise
All the fours or all the nines
I lost my phone in paradise
Pay as you go

What a nice day for a murder
You call yourself a killer but the only thing you're killing is your time
There's nothing absurder
than a bird that´s a burden to your heart, soul, body, spirit and mind.

Don't look at me like that she won't take you back
Done too much been too unkind
Get up off your back, stop smoking that
Change your life, think it´ll change her mind.

Don't look at me like that she won't take you back
Said too much been too unkind
Get up off your back, stop smoking that
If you change your life
