Bang Bang You're Dead is the title of the debut single by Dirty Pretty Things. It first appeared as a demo and flash video on the band's website, and was the first Dirty Pretty Things demo released to fans.
Released as a single on April 24, 2006, the song proved very successful, charting at #5 on the UK Singles Chart. This coincided with the latter part of their first tour of the United Kingdom, which spanned from February 26 to May 24, 2006.
Its sound has been likened to that of the early Libertines , mixing punk and reggae influences. Early rumours about the song claimed it was about Peter Doherty, citing the lyrics, "I gave you the Midas touch; you turned round and scratched out my heart" as evidence. Carl Barat later denied this, stating that the song was about many things including Doherty.
The introduction to the song features a trumpet solo by Anthony Rossomando , as does Tired of England , the first single from Dirty Pretty Things ' second album, Romance at Short Notice . Whilst touring, the band would usually skip this introduction, but Rossomando would often perform it at festivals and for the band's TV appearances.
In 2006, it was used as the theme tune to the BBC series Sorted.

I knew all along
That I was right at the start
'bout the seeds of the weeds
That grew in your heart
Self satisfaction for the factions
Who formed to tear us apart
Well I gave you the Midas touch
Oh you turned round and scratched out my heart
Oh what did you expect?
Oh tell me what did you expect?
To lay it on my head
So is it all upon my head?
Bang bang you're dead
Oh I'm so easily lead
Bang bang you're dead
Put all the rumours to bed
Bang bang you're dead
I knew all along
But I was loathe to believe
There was nothing but spite
Fury and lies
Of the words that you weave
An illusion to a conclusion
And oh its oh so tawdry
When you put it to bed
Kick it in the head
Oh won't they just let it be
Bang bang you're dead
Always so easily lead
Bang bang you're dead
Put all the rumours to bed
Bang bang you're dead
Oh what did you expect?
Oh tell me what did you expect?
To lay it on my head
So is it all upon my head?
Bang bang you're dead
Always so easily lead
Bang bang you're dead
Put all the rumours to bed
Bang bang you're dead
Bang bang bang bang you're dead
