The Gentry Cove (also known as Gentry Cove and previously called Pirates) is track #5 on Dirty Pretty Things' debut album, Waterloo to Anywhere. The song debuted at the first Dirty Pretty Things show at Qube, Rome on October 10th 2005.
Although the song has been interpreted by noted critic Robert Christgau as a "sarcastic" reference to "the U.K. working class's Iraq options," Carl Barat refers to it as purely a "Boy's Own Adventure Story" and a way of crowbarring in a reference to one of his favourite films, "Dead Man's Shoes."
