Palace of Bone (sometimes known as Snakey Road or Dootle) is a Peter Doherty track that featured as track #8 on his debut solo album, Grace/Wastelands. When Babyshambles' second album Shotter's Nation was in its very early stages, there was a rumour that Palace of Bone might appear, however this never happened.
When a photograph of what appeared to be a tracklisting for Doherty's solo album leaked in January 2006, after Doherty's New Years eve guerrilla gig, Palace of Bone was written as Track #6. In early reviews of Grace/Wastelands, Doherty's vocals on Palace of Bone are compared to Johnny Cash.
When Andrew Kendall uploaded Peter Doherty's Laptop Recordings, in April 2006, a song dubbed by fans as "Dootle", featuring Dot Allison was heard. It was actually an early version of Palace of Bone, with different lyrics at the beginning of the track. There was also another version of Palace of Bone amongst the recordings tagged as "Snakey Road".

Well we've been a long time together now
Time together on the Snakey Road
There ain't no time together
Like time spent together on the Snakey Road
Winding on through the hills forever
Winding on that Snakey Road
Winding on forever
Winding on that Snakey Road
What's that they're telling you?
That's your future, I'm telling you
You gotta pick your pocket too
We've been a long time together
Time together on the Snakey Road
There ain't no time together
Like time spent together on the Snakey Road
Winding on through the hills together
Winding on that Snakey Road
Winding on forever
Winding on that Snakey Road
What's that they're selling you?
Oh, lotions, potions, selling you
They're gonna pick your pocket or two
(In the clearing)
I'm going to build me a palace of bone
With wide open walls and an ebony throne
All the broken children from every broken home
Can come and live in the palace of bone
I'm going to build me a palace of bone
With wide open walls and an ebony throne
And there's ain't no blackened heart
No innocent soul
Can't come and dance in the palace of bone
Time together, time together on the Snakey Road
