Get Thee To A Nunnery is a rare Libertines song. The only known recording comes from a live bootleg of a gig that Peter Doherty did acoustically at "Jazz after Dark", where he was playing old material that he did not think was worthy of a proper release. The song title is a quote from the shakespearean play, "Hamlet" ('Get thee to a nunn'ry, why woulds't thou be a breeder of sinners?').
Jazz After Dark | Peter Doherty | Session | 2006 |
An Appollo city lovely one who
oh never loved another
like you loved her mother
oh be careful
she's got a harder brother
you sent the little jibe you sent her sent her a long way
and I been tellin' the tiny things that you say
oh my boy you'd better pray
get thee to a nunnery
Apocalyptic lovely one who
ah she never loved another like you
like you loved her mother
now be careful
her heart's not made of rubber
get thee to a nunnery
fuck yeah ??? you ninny
Jazz After Dark version
A parasitic lovely one who
aw never loved another
like you loved her mother
ah be careful
she's got a harder brother
The syphilitic jibe you sent her
sent her a long way
ah the terrible, terrible things that you say
oh, my boy you'd better pray
Get thee to a nunnery
Get thee there
Get thee there
Apocalyptic lovely one who
aw she never loved another like you
like you loved another
now be careful
her heart's not made of rubber
Get thee to a nunnery
Get thee there
Get thee there
