The Delaney

Band songlist

Info

The Delaney is a title of a track by The Libertines. As well as being released as a B Side track to The Libertines' second single, Up the Bracket, it was also included on the album Time for Heroes - The Best of The Libertines, released in 2007. The track is somewhat of a fan favourite, often being requested at live shows, and sometimes even being played with Babyshambles at gigs.

When Andrew Kendall uploaded the content of Doherty's "My Music" folder in April 2006, it contained a folder which included some monitor mixes and scrapped tracks from The Libertines second self-titled album. One of these tracks (titled "09 track 9") was an unheard version of The Delaney. The demo version of "The Delaney" is also included in the "Horrorshow in London Town" collection of tracks.

Lyrics

On the bus the other day
You could tell right from the start
There's magic in all that you play
But oh, can you play guitar boy
Can you play guitar?
The truth is no, the drums they roll
And I loop the loop on the old banjo

Say no no no
Say yeah yeah yeah
I said maybe maybe maybe
I just don't care

No it doesn't rhyme with treachery
Nothing I never did
Measure out your honesty and
Things you keep in
Things they keep in
The truth is known the drums they roll
I loop the loop on the old banjo

Say no no no
Oh yeah yeah yeah
Oh maybe maybe maybe
I just dont care

Some people run from trouble
Some people meet it half way
Others are glad to pay
Their cab fare over
And superficially you enjoy the company
That you loathe to bear
What exactly do you mean
The truth be known the drums they roll
I loop the loop on the old banjo

Say no no no
Then said yeah yeah yeah
Oh maybe maybe maybe
I just dont care

Say no no no
Yeah yeah yeah
Oh maybe maybe maybe
I just don’t care
