Salome is the title of a Peter Doherty track officially released on his debut album Grace/Wastelands on March 16th 2009. Though uncredited on the CD release, it was later revealed that Mik Whitnall co-wrote the song. (According to a January 2010 NME article, this omission negatively affected Doherty and Whitnall's working relationship for a while.)
The solo album artwork is painted by Alizé Meurisse with contributions by Doherty, and is inspired by Oscar Wilde's French play 'Salomé'.The lyrics to the song tell the story of the Bible character Salome, who caused the death of John the Baptist by demanding his head from King Herod.
In May 2007, Doherty told the NME; "I’ve got a song called ‘Salome’ which I haven’t done with the band yet. I’m kind of saving it for the acoustic album", and a few weeks later an acoustic demo of the song was leaked onto .org forums. It has not been played live with Babyshambles to date.
Doherty played this track acoustically at both nights of his "An Evening with Peter Doherty" at the Hackney Empire in April 2007. When asked by XFM to identify his favourite songs on Grace/Wastelands, he responded that he was quite fond of "Salome".

In the cold, the coldest of nights
A fire alights to warm my bones
I've had enough of the dreadful cold
And from the flames appears Salome
I stand before her amazed
As she dances and demands
The head of John the Baptist on a plate
In the morning
Shaken and disturbed
From under soft white furs
See the dust in the morning bright
Sets the room alight
By the telly appears Salome
I stand before her amazed
As she dances and demands
The head of Isadora Duncan on a plate
Oh, Salome
Oh, Salome!
In the cold, coldest of nights
A fire alights to warm my bones
I've had enough of the dreadful cold
From the flames appears Salome
I stand before her amazed
As she dances and demands
The head of any bastard on a plate
