John Robinson was a member of The Bandits; a 6 piece rock band from Liverpool who previously toured with The Libertines. Robinson features on Grace/Wastelands (Doherty's debut solo album) on track #6, I Am the Rain. The track was the only one on the album that hadn't previously been made available in demo or bootleg form, and replaced Through the Looking Glass at a very late stage (the versions sent to the press actually included Through the Looking Glass).
Of Robinson, Doherty said in an interview with Clash Music, "He’s had a song for a while called ‘I Am The Rain’, which we used to play backstage and in hotel rooms and at bus stops back in the days when The Bandits used to play with The Libertines. I always wanted to do it, so we worked on it a bit together, changed a word, nicked a third..."
