So Long, My Lover (also known as simply So Long) is an acoustic ballad by Carl Barat first performed during his solo set at Dumfermline's Carnegie Hall on June 9, 2009. It was released as the seventh track on Barat's self-titled solo album 4 October 2010.
Barat describes the song as "an epic ballad sort of song which is a little bit Serge Gainsbourg and Leonard Cohen. I wanted to do a song with female backing vocals. Initially it started as a tragic break-up and again, I guess it's some kind of catharsis." and that it is "the most obvious song on the album I think." about "Saying goodbye and accepting the story's end."
