Vertigo

Band songlist

Info

Vertigo is track #1 on The Libertines' debut album Up the Bracket, and is credited to "Doherty" and "Barat". No sessions or demo versions of this track exist on the Internet, however, there is a live recording included in the "Horrorshow in London Town" collection.
The lyric, "Lead pipes, your fortune's made," is a line from an episode of Hancock's Half Hour entitled 'The Poetry Society.'

Doherty: 'I like the line 'Was it the liquor? Or was it my soul?' It's when you can't work out whether it was genuine or whether you just got caught up in the debauched outside influence. Is it a Hitchcock reference? Well, there's a hitch and there's definitely a cock, but that's nothing to do with the film director.' (NME interview, 2002)

Lyrics

Koreema know just what it is she does
It cant be hard for her to get a buzz
Down in the street below
You can hear the drunken archangel sing
"I know whats on your mind my boy
I can see oh everything
Lead pipes are fortune made
Well Take a tip from me
Climb up to her window ledge or you'll forever be

Just walking under ladders as the people round you hear you crying please
As the people round you hear you crying please
Please"

"Lead pipes are fortune made
Well Take a tip from me
Climb up to her window ledge or you'll forever be

Just walking under ladders as the people round you hear you crying please
As the people round you hear you crying please
Please"

Who really knows just what it is she does
It cant be hard for her
To get a buzz
The rapture of vertigo
And letting go
Me myself i was never sure
Was it the liquor
Or was it my soul?
