Smashing is the title of a demo track, recorded in the early days of The Libertines. There are two different versions of the track available online (not including bootlegs); the 77 demo version and the Whitechapel Demonstrations version (a Doherty solo effort). The 77 version contains a woman’s vocals singing in French and it has been up to debate for some time as to who the woman on the track actually is; while some argue that it is photographer Lula Camus, others say that it may be model Irina Lazareanu.

Although Smashing is one of The Libertines’ oldest tracks, Peter Doherty still sometimes plays the track live at his solo gigs, and a few bootlegs of the song exist.
